OnePlus 8T, Moto G 5G, Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro, and 12 others now support AR apps on Android
Google Play Services for AR (formerly Google ARCore) is a software service that enables applications to create augmented reality experiences on devices without any dedicated AR hardware. While the service uses a device’s existing cameras and sensors for the AR experience, Google has to work with OEMs to create custom calibration profiles for each device. This ensures that AR features work properly on the device, and users don’t face any issues. As OEMs release several new devices each month, Google keeps updating the list of supported devices ever so often. Since our previous coverage last month, 15 new devices have made it to the list.
The following devices now officially support Google Play Services for AR:
- HMD Global Nokia 3.4
- Motorola Moto G 5G
- Motorola Moto G Stylus (2020)
- Motorola One Fusion
- OnePlus 8T
- Realme X7 5G
- Realme V5 5G
- Sony Xperia 5 II
- Vivo iQOO 5 5G
- Vivo V20
- Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro
- Zebra ET51s 8″ Enterprise Tablet
- Zebra ET56s 8″ Enterprise Tablet
- Zebra TC52x WLAN Touch Computer
- Zebra TC57x WWAN Touch Computer
In case you have any of the aforementioned devices, Google Play Services for AR should automatically be pushed to your device. But if you haven’t received the update yet, you can force it by sideloading the APK yourself.
With Google Play Services for AR installed on your device, you will be able to enjoy various augmented reality features, like the Live View feature in Google Maps and the AR+ mode in Pokémon Go. You can also check out the new Mandalorian AR experience if you happen to have a supported device.
Do note that while you can sideload the Google Play Services for AR APK on an unsupported device, you might face occasional glitches due to the lack of proper calibration. So, make sure you check the full list of compatible devices before sideloading the APK.
